Russia Imperial (Russian Empire)

  • The Russian Empire was a state that existed from 1721 until overthrown by the short-lived liberal February Revolution in 1917. Wikipedia
  • Founded: 1721
  • National anthem: God Save the Tsar!
  • Currency: Russian ruble
  • Government: Tsarist autocracy, Autocracy, Absolute monarchy

Front and Back: Coat of arms of Russia
    Features the Double-headed Eagle

Interestingly these notes were printed by the Soviet government even after the days of the czars ended and before new paper currency was instituted.  These later prints all bear the Shipov signature and can be distinguished from their imperial counterparts by the abbreviated serial number.  Abbreviated serial numbers consist of two letters and three numerals, as seen above on the 5 Ruble. Compare to the 10 Ruble below the usual two letters and six numerals.

(If you have purchased the banknote set the serial numbers will vary from these examples)
